Could You Open Your Home to a Young Person Locally?
Hatch Warren, Beggarwood and Kempshott Park are places where people get involved, whether that’s supporting local events, clubs, or simply looking out for neighbours.
Alongside this everyday community life, there are young people locally who need a bit of extra support at key moments. Some are leaving care. Others are dealing with family breakdown or instability. What many need is something straightforward but powerful: a safe home and an adult they can rely on.
Step by Step, a local charity working across the Basingstoke area, supports young people through these transitions in a range of ways, including advice, practical help and safe housing options. One of the most meaningful ways the community gets involved is by opening their homes.
There are two main ways to do this. Supported Lodgings supports young people aged 16–21, offering a spare room, stability and encouragement as they work towards independence. Fostering supports children and young people up to the age of 18, offering the security and consistency of a family home.
Both roles are fully supported, with training, professional guidance and financial allowances. People are carefully matched, and you are never expected to do this alone.
If you live in Hatch Warren, Beggarwood or Kempshott Park and are curious about opening your home, now or in the future, Step by Step would love to hear from you.
