Take a Stand Against Youth Homelessness
On Friday 10 October 2025, you can take a stand for young people in crisis by joining Step by Step’s annual Sleep Out at Farnborough Business Park.
Here in Basingstoke, including Hatch Warren, Beggarwood and Kempshott Park, some young people aged 11–25 are facing serious challenges – including care leavers with nowhere to turn after leaving the care system, and those affected by family breakdowns, abuse, sofa surfing or sleeping rough. These situations can happen to anyone, and many young people face them alone, without the stability or support most of us take for granted.
Step by Step works to change that. From the Orchard community hub in Basingstoke, young people can access our Launch service in person, receiving vital support, advice and guidance. We also provide safe homes through Supported Accommodation in South Ham, as well as Supported Lodgings and fostering with amazing individuals and families who, with our full support, welcome young people into their own homes. These options offer stability and the opportunity to build a brighter future. Our wellbeing services and counselling give any young person the tools to overcome challenges and thrive.
The Sleep Out is your chance to be part of that change. Participants swap their bed for a sleeping bag for one night, raising funds and awareness to ensure these services remain available to every young person who needs them. The event will feature live music, inspiring stories from young people who have been supported by Step by Step, and a warm sense of community.
Lydia, who became homeless at 16 after losing both parents, says: “Without Step by Step, I can imagine my life going completely differently. The stability and support they gave me changed everything.”
